The trip began with an exciting overnight train journey from Bengaluru. The next day students went for an exhilarating safari through the lush forests of Tadoba, where students were lucky to spot a remarkable variety of wildlife. The star of the day was the elusive tiger, Shambhu, who gave the group a rare sighting as he dragged his kill across the trail. The students watched in hushed admiration, realizing the raw power and beauty of this majestic predator. They also encountered a host of wild animals, a sloth bear lumbering along, a graceful leopard, herds of spotted deer and sambar deer, and a pack of wild dogs, moving in unison with characteristic agility.
A delightful variety of birds added vibrant colours and calls to the experience. Students marvelled at the sight of the hornbill, admired the quick dives of the kingfisher, and watched the roller bird with its captivating colours as it flitted among branches.
The itinerary curated for the students included a visit to a village. Students got a peep into the culture of the local community. The villagers welcomed the students warmly, sharing stories of their daily lives and challenges, especially those related to living near the tiger reserve. Students learned about the harmonious relationship villagers maintain with the surrounding forests and wildlife, respecting and understanding their shared environment. The interaction provided a valuable perspective on sustainable living and environmental awareness, emphasizing the importance of coexisting with nature.
As evening fell, an interactive session was held by the experienced tour operators who shared insightful information about Tadoba’s unique ecosystem and the importance of conservation efforts. Students actively participated in discussions and asked thought-provoking questions, showing keen interest in the animals they had seen and the natural balance required to sustain their habitat.
To make learning fun and engaging, role-play activities were conducted where students assumed the roles of various animals and other elements of the ecosystem. This immersive activity helped them understand the interactions and dependencies within the natural world, reinforcing the importance of each species in maintaining ecological balance.
The trip to Tadoba Tiger Reserve was an enriching experience, offering students both thrilling wildlife encounters and valuable lessons on conservation and community living. From spotting majestic tigers and vibrant birds to interacting with local villagers, students returned with memories, newfound respect for nature, and a deeper understanding of the world around them.
