Description :
Play is our brain’s favourite way of learning.
Introducing the concept of opposites is an important milestone in a child~s language development.
To engage Grade 2 students in a fun and interactive learning experience, a buddy activity was designed
to help them understand and identify opposites. Students were given a card which had a picture of a word.
They were asked to find out the opposite word for the given picture. As soon as the game started, they started
looking for the child who was holding their pair card. As the students searched for matching pairs of words, they
exercised their critical thinking skills and expanded their vocabulary. They carefully examined the meaning of each word,
considering its context and relationship with other concepts. Through this process, they developed a deeper understanding of
opposites and honed their ability to analyze language and discern opposite meanings. Soon they were able to find their partners
and were sorted in groups. They were then asked to come one by one in front of the class and discuss the opposite they were having as a pair.
Working in pairs, the students had the opportunity to collaborate and support each other throughout the activity.
As they discussed and compared their cards, they engaged in meaningful conversations, sharing their thoughts
and reasoning with their buddies. This collaborative environment not only fostered teamwork but also enhanced their
communication skills and listening abilities. Through mutual support and guidance, the students strengthened their
relationships with their classmates, creating a positive and inclusive learning atmosphere. Additionally, the activity nurtured
a sense of teamwork, empathy, and confidence, creating a positive learning environment where students felt supported and valued.
