Description :
"Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime."
Life skills are essential tools used for navigating the complexities of everyday life with confidence and resilience. They encompass a wide range of abilities, from decision-making and critical thinking to interpersonal skills and self-awareness. Teaching life skills to pre-primary students through activities like clothes washing, dusting, and learning table manners prepares them for future independence and instils valuable habits that last a lifetime.
The students of Nursery, LKG and UKG were taught the concept of cleanliness by washing their own clothing items like shirts, napkins, socks etc. They were guided through the process of dipping, soaping, and rinsing and how to wring out water gently and hang the clothes for drying. To teach children the importance of keeping their surroundings clean and dust-free, children dusted small, safe areas like shelves, tables, or toy counters. Basic table manners were demonstrated such as washing hands before eating, using napkins, and waiting for everyone to be served before starting to eat. They were guided through the process, like passing dishes, saying "please" and "thank you," and using utensils appropriately.
By incorporating these activities into their routine, children not only learn practical skills but also develop a sense of responsibility, and self-esteem, and understand the importance of personal hygiene, and social etiquette.
