Interdisciplinary learning or activities are a set of activities which combines two or more academic discipline to work on a common theme. It requires interaction of knowledge from different disciplines; integration of knowledge from different disciplines; and shaping the learning experience to integrate the diversified perspectives into an integrated and logical construction.
"Learning is not attained by chance, it must be sought for with ardour and diligence".
With the aim to realize the above thought, the researchers of grade IV, The HDFC School, Pune worked and connected various subjects on a common theme, - Paradise on Earth -Conquering the northern mountains. The interdisciplinary activity was carried out on 14th September.
The Indian peninsula is home to many majestic and mighty mountain peaks and ranges. This interdisciplinary project conveyed to students the fascinating natural process of mountain formation by combining their knowledge of the structure of the earth and the concept of plate tectonics in as simple a manner This topic covered an interdisciplinary field of study focusing on the physical, biological, and human dimensions of the Northern Mountains states. Students explored the geographical location, topography, cultural significance, lifestyle of the people and flora and fauna of the ten states of the Northern Mountains. Students also explored information on how mountains are used, how they’re protected, and how today they’re experiencing rapid change in a warming climate.
Students of Class IV prepared attractive power point presentations. posters, collage, models and chart to present their information on the states and union territory covered under the northern mountains of India. Not only this, through the activity they also explored mind blowing facts on the states and union territory covered under the northern mountains Students sang folk songs and presented folk dance to provide an insight into the culture of the?States and union territory.
With great enthusiasm and teamwork, the students not only completed the activity and enjoyed it but also it was a great learning experience for each of them.
