Celebrations on Earth Day

Date of event: April - 2021

Description :

“The earth is what we all have in common.”
-Wendell Berry

Perhaps one of the most important dates in our calendar and certainly the most undervalued, is 22nd of April. This date coincides with the Arbor Day, celebrated in Nebraska by encouraging planting of trees and is now universally celebrated as ‘Earth Day’.

The HDFC School, Pune always appreciates and understands the value of a clean, prosperous and friendly environment towards its inhabitants. We strongly encourage all activities that lead to a better environment. Taking a potent step towards this cause and keeping the current scenario of COVID-19 into consideration, a special activity on Earth Day was conducted on MS Teams for Grades III to V who were exposed to an educational PPT which included information that enables actions towards a greener world. Small acts, but acts that make a difference such as planting more trees, switching off lights when unused, reducing wastage and being conscious and responsible about our surroundings, were all taught to these young impressionable minds.

To reinforce this knowledge, various activities were conducted which were based upon the solemn topic of ‘Save Mother Earth.’ The students made wind chimes from whatever waste products they fancied or expressed their ideas and creativity in the form of posters and recited poems in Hindi/ English on Mother Earth. The vigor and enthusiasm with which the students participated in the event only emphasized that if given the right tools and opportunity, our young minds have the potential to make this world a better place. The Earth Day celebrations indeed reminded us of the immortal words of Michael Jackson, “Heal the World, Make it a better place.”
