EDUREFORM VOCATIONAL TRAINING FOR IN-SERVICE TEACHERS

Date of event: February - 2023

Description :

“You can teach a student a lesson for a day; but if you can teach him to learn by creating curiosity, he will continue the learning process as long as he lives.” - Clay P. Bedford

Savitribai Phule Pune University, in collaboration with Latvijas Universitate, jamk.fi (Finland, University of Applied Sciences), Universitat Hamburg and Chitkara University, Punjab initiated a vocational training programme for in-service teachers under the banner of Edureform, co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union. This was held from 1st Feb – 4th Feb 2023 at Pune University. Senior Secondary teachers of The HDFC School, Pune were privileged to be part of this prestigious workshop.

The aim of the workshop was to train and equip teachers to see how simple and novel changes in the antiquated systems and rigid assembly line methods can completely revolutionize the education system. They showed the teachers how common-sense practices and a holistic teaching environment can enhance equity as well as excellence in learner-centered classrooms.

There were many takeaways for the teacher trainees from the various activities conducted in the sessions. A few notable activities were Concept Formation, the Learning Café, and the Heads or Tails activity. These activities focussed on tailoring formative assessments to the content taught in a quick and crisp way, practising collaborative learning assessment, and promoting Self-Assessment and Self-Reflection in various aspects of the teaching-learning process.

Many more activities that were conducted by different universities dealt with topics such as Multi-Perspective teaching, Computational Thinking, Reflective Thinking etc.

The entire 4-day training aimed at equipping teachers with the skills needed to prepare students to be creative, to exercise emotional intelligence, and have effective communication practices. In addition, it also helped teachers learn how to guide students to take complex decisions while implementing critical thinking and analytical skills in any given situation, and to train them to be leaders and prepare them to collaborate and do team work.

All in all, the 4-day workshop was indeed an eye-opener for all the teacher attendees who were part of this innovative and path-breaking programme.
