To empower educators with effective strategies for nurturing language and literacy skills in young learners, Dr. Romila Soni, Assistant Professor, NCERT, conducted an engaging workshop on ‘Foundational Literacy’ for the teachers facilitating Foundational Years at The HDFC School, Gurgaon on 2 July 2024. The workshop was a comprehensive exploration of balanced literacy principles and the four-block approach focusing dynamic play-based and experiential learning methods. The workshop aimed to equip educators with innovative strategies to enhance literacy development among early learners through interactive and hands-on approaches. Play-way learning methods were highlighted for their effectiveness in making learning engaging and memorable.
The vital role of oral expression in students’ development was emphasised and participants explored innovative strategies to enhance early literacy skills through interactive activities. The speaker underscored the importance of integrating lessons with nature, emphasising the importance of outdoor experiences that help instilling a deeper appreciation for the environment and increasing environmental awareness.
The workshop proved to be a deeply enlightening experience, enriching educators with a comprehensive toolkit to nurture early literacy skills effectively. Through interactive sessions participants gained valuable insights to create dynamic learning environments that cultivate strong literacy skills, critical thinking, and a lifelong love for learning among students.
