The HDFC School hosted a two day workshop titled The Joy of Making and Breaking Toys on the 27th and 28th of June 2024. Led by Professor Manish Jain, Ms. Rashmi Sheoran, and Mr. Krishna Kumar Purohit the session targeted Science and Mathematics teachers from various schools and focused on innovative teaching strategies involving hands-on experiments and activities.
The workshop aimed to foster curiosity and enthusiasm for Science and Mathematics through interactive experiments. Participants engaged in activities such as crafting pinhole cameras and rubber whistles. The session also explored pattern recognition and the use of mobile applications like Phyphox to engage students with complex concepts.
Highlights included experiments on air pressure, force demonstrations, and newspaper origami hat-making. Professor Manish shared anecdotes from his career and discussed the contributions of CCL (Centre for Creative Learning), Gandhinagar in educating students and teachers across India through the STEM 3030 YouTube channel.
This eye opening experience provided teachers and students with valuable insights. It would enable them to use simple experiments to explore challenging concepts, enhancing their teaching and learning approaches.
