“Friendship” and “Aegina”

Date of event: February - 2022

Description :

In December ’21 and January ’22, Tara Sahay and Advit Gaur from Grade XI, The HDFC School, Gurgaon, received acceptance mails from Down in the Dirt magazine for their short stories, “Friendship” and “Aegina”.

The magazine was initially founded in 1993 as a saddle-stitched supplement section by Janet Kuypers, a professional performance artist and publisher from Chicago. She now runs Scars Publications where she edits two literary magazines, releases books, chapbooks, videos and lists performance art shows.

Originally written 3 years ago, Tara’s tale recounts the misgivings of a distant group of friends. Utilizing her observations from her visit to Kuldhara, Tara manages to capture the atmospheric details of the location. On the other hand, Advit’s story, utilizing SDG 6 – Water and Sanitation, explores a novel solution to contaminated water.

Both stories have now been selected for multiple publications – first, for the May 2022 online magazine issue, and a print edition for later.
