Visit to Gandhi Smriti | The HDFC School, Gurgaon

Date of event: September - 2023

Description :

By education, I mean an all-round drawing of the best in child and man in body, spirit, and mind.” These wise words were said by the father of our nation, Mahatma Gandhi who steadfastly believed in giving each child an opportunity to learn quality education. To make our young students aware of the life, history and work of Gandhi Ji, The HDFC School, and Gurgaon organized an excursion to the Gandhi Smriti in New Delhi on September 1, 2023 for our Grade V students.

The visit to the museum started with a warm welcome from the guides who made history come alive for the children. They lead the way through various sections, each unveiling different facets of Gandhi Ji’s life. The children paid their homage to him by visiting the spot where he was assassinated. Then, expanding their mind’s horizon, they walked through the vibrant picture galleries that portrayed his journey from birth to his demise. The technology-powered sections of the museum helped children understand the struggles of the freedom movement highlighting important movements like Quit India, Champaran struggle, Dandi March, Jallianwala Bagh and many more.

Through interactive exhibits, children grasped the principles of non-violence and peace that Gandhi Ji advocated. His simple lifestyle and self-sufficiency are other lessons that resonated with young minds. They saw his belongings, including his iconic Charkha, and understood the importance of self-reliance. They also explored his fight for equality and social justice.

As the kids stepped into the hallowed halls of this museum, they learned about the man who, with his unwavering determination and love for humanity, played a pivotal role in India~s freedom struggle. Their visit to this museum sowed the seeds of inspiration, encouraging them to be the change they wish to see in the world, just as Mahatma Gandhi envisioned.
