Description :
“Field trips enable teachers to create as many authentic experiences as possible. These special memories are created in the brain and need no rehearsal”.
- Forgarty 2001
Field trips are a great resource for students to explore experiential learning opportunities by connecting classroom learning to the real world.
The KG children of The HDFC School, Gurgaon are learning all about community helpers and how a city functions better because of the people who care for it.
Keeping this in mind they were taken on a short and informative trip to nearby fire station to learn about the significance of community helpers.
It was a delight to see them interact with the firemen and learn how they come together as a team to fight in tough situations.
The students gained awareness about using water to put out fire. They also saw how a ladder is used to reach heights, how water is
sprayed through the hose pipe, and even memorized the helpline number.
A demonstration drill was also conducted to explain the whole process of fire elimination. This outbound trip gave them an idea about
what to do and how important it is to use their presence of mind when a crisis like this occurs. It was indeed immense learning and fun experience for our students.
